This morning we had a lot of clouds on the mountains and they made for the most wonderful sunrise. I got this photo of the sunrise at about 5:30 am. This photo wasn't cropped and I was happier with the composition.
Then tonight a storm was coming over the mountain and the sun was shinning in spots on the mountain. I grabbed my camera and the tripod and headed down the hall. I was trying to arrange the camera around my neck and dropped the tripod. Crash, bang and down it went taking the glass on the end table with it. The glass broke and fell to the carpet. But that didn't stop this crazy old lady...off I went to capture the last minutes of sun on the mountains. Here are the photos I got.
I'm still not happy with my compositions. It seems that I get too excite over the subject matter and don't pay enough attention to the compositions of the picture. I had to crop these two photos to get the right balance. It just seems like I can't get it through my head to take my time and get the composition right! Maybe some day!
We had a very destructive storm hit Tucson last night. I had a horse group meeting at my house so I missed most of the lightning show. Tucson had 2" of rain and up to 75 mile an hour winds. 8 power poles were taken out and some homes are still without power. Lost of trees were down and traffic lights were out.
I ran outside after my meeting broke up. I took dozens of photos but only one had any lightening. I followed the instructions from this web site to take photos of lightning http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidw/490726436. Only thing I changed for the photos I took tonight was to leave the shutter open for 40+ seconds. Seems like the lightning gods knew that I was keep the shutter open for 30 seconds and would flash the best lightning after I clicked the shutter. I used AV a 13 and set my camera on B, used a remote shutter release. First photo is in black and white.
These were taken tonight and I didn't convert them to black and white.
I think I've got the idea now an hope there are more storms so I can get some better photos.
